The National Association of Realtors (NAR) is a professional trade organization representing real estate agents and brokers in the United States. It was founded in 1908 and is one of the largest trade associations in the country, with over 1.4 million members as of my last update in September 2021.
The purpose of the National Association of Realtors is to promote professionalism and ethical practices within the real estate industry. NAR advocates for the interests of its members, provides education and resources to enhance their skills, and advocates for homeownership rights and real estate-related policies at the national level. NAR is committed to maintaining high standards for its members through the enforcement of the Realtors® Code of Ethics, which sets forth the ethical duties and conduct expected of Realtors®.
The Idaho Realtors organization (IR) is a state-level association that operates within the state of Idaho and is affiliated with the National Association of Realtors. The IR serves as a regional extension of NAR, providing support and services to real estate professionals in Idaho. Like NAR, Idaho Realtors focuses on promoting professionalism, advocating for its members, and supporting homeownership in the state.
Local Realtor boards are associations that operate at the local level, usually within specific cities or regions. These boards are part of the larger Realtor organization structure and are affiliated with both the National Association of Realtors and their respective state association, such as the Idaho Association of Realtors. Local Realtor boards provide services and support to real estate professionals within their specific geographic area. They organize networking events, educational programs, and community outreach initiatives. Local Realtor boards also play a role in enforcing the Realtors® Code of Ethics and resolving disputes between members, ensuring ethical conduct within the local real estate community.
In summary, the National Association of Realtors is the largest and most prominent trade organization representing real estate professionals in the United States. It sets industry standards, advocates for the rights of its members, and promotes ethical practices through its Code of Ethics. State-level associations, like Idaho Realtors, and local Realtor boards are affiliated with NAR and play a vital role in supporting and serving real estate professionals within their respective regions.
